Presentation of prestigious international prize Arctic Awards, established by Arctic World Club and Association of Polar explorers in 2015, will take place in The Ritz Carlton Moscow 1 December 2018.
The main aim of ARCTIC AWARDS, according to its founders, is to attract attention of public organizations, state institutions, and business companies to the issues of effective and steady development of Arctic. We are interested not only in the projects aimed at development of natural resources and infrastructure of the region. More important role in development of the territory plays the popularization of the Arctic region, wide coverage of indigenous people’s culture, support of ecological and charitable projects, support of sports, cultural and educational events.
Laureates of the Arctic Awards in different years were the most famous in their spheres people whose achievements and activities had a public outcry. For his contribution to development of Arctic and Antarctic Arthur Chilingarov, a legendary Polar explorer and Dr. of Geography Corresnding member of Russian Academy of science, was awarded the prize by the Public Committee. In nomination “Prospective innovative Arctic project” Inge Solheim, a famous sea voyager and explorer of Arctic, got a prize for the project “International Ice Station”. Two Funds “Children’s destinies” and “Give life” were awarded in the nomination of charity. These two organizations were equally appreciated by the prize Committee for their contribution to charity. Fund “Children’s destinies” (President of the Fund is Lilia Shamihina) helps young people in social adaptation after leaving special boarding schools. Fund “Give life” helps the children with oncohematological and other serious diseases. Fund “Give life” co-founder is Chulpan Hamatova, a famous Russian actress, President – Ekaterina Chistiakova. “Snow legend” was the name of the nomination in which Roman Patrushev became a laureate. A man of strong will and stamina, who became 6 times the champion of Paralympic Games and brought six gold medals to Russian Paralympic team in Winter Olympic games in Sochi in 2014, gives a great sample of bravery and devotion, being an alive legend of Paralympic sports.
The Arctic Awards is traditionally presented to outstanding social leaders, representatives of culture, business and sports for their contributions to development of the Arctic region.
In 2018 the Arctic Awards will be presented in nine nominations for the projects realized in Antarctic: “Achievements in development and mastering of Arctic and Antarctic”, “Prospective innovative Arctic project”, “Scientific, educational and elucidative activity”, “ Literature and publishing activity”, “Charity”, “Ecology”, “Cinema and television”, “Prominent sports achievements”, “Development of children and youth sports”. Special nomination will be provided for the mass media –“For best coverage of Arctic and Antarctic”. In the near time, a short list of Arctic Awards will be announced. More than twenty organizations and personalities from the whole world comprise the group of candidates for presentation of the prestigious international award.
Arctic Awards 2018 Ceremony will be held in the form of Arctic Ball, organized by The International organization Arctic World Club together with charitable Fund “Winter Ball”. The host of the ceremony will be Vladimir Pozner. In different years, the patrons of the Ball were ambassadors of various countries. In 2018 Winter Ball, whose calling card is its international character, is completely devoted to Arctic - the arena of international cooperation and symbol of future.
About charitable Fund “Winter Ball”
Charitable Fund “Winter Ball” helps the children who suffer from cancer. The money, received from events held by the Fund, is spent on expensive endo-artificial limbs and equipment for treatment of the children, who do not get financial dotation from governmental funds. Every year the Ball gathers more than 300 guests- philanthropists from different countries. Due to the support of the philanthropists and guests of the Winter Ball, the Fund has provided 71 517 000 rubles to charity for four years. Among the guests of “Winter Ball” were Alexander Avdeev, German Gref, Irina Viner, Mrs. Giscar d’Esten, Prince Lorence of Belgium, Dutch Simeon of Austria, Minister of Foreing Affairs Mr. Hose Badia and many other representatives of political, business and secular spheres of society. Svetlana Medveveva has been an honoured guest of the Ball several times. Valentina Matvienko was a patron of the charitable Ball several times. The Ball receives the blessing of Patriarch of Moscow and Russia Kirill.
