Famous Hollywood actor and philanthropist Leonardo DiCaprio won the Arctic Awards 2018 International Award for the development of innovative environmental projects.
As part of his creative and social activities, Leonardo William DiCaprio repeatedly demonstrated an active position on issues of environmental security and the preservation of endangered animal species. Having established the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation in 1998, DiCaprio allocated over $ 30 million to develop 70 innovative environmental projects in 40 countries. This, in particular, is about protecting the marine fauna or endangered animal species. “Together we are fighting to preserve the fragile climate of our planet against irreversible destruction,” the actor comments on his activities.
It is to be recall that Leonardo DiCaprio has been the UN Ambassador on climate change since 2014. Also, this year it became known that DiCaprio intends to invest in a company that specializes in the independent cultivation of seafood and selling them in frozen form. The actor based his decision as follows: “The exploitation of our oceans has led to that many marine ecosystems have been driven to the brink of total collapse, which reduces our ability to use the sea as a reliable food source, as we have done for thousands of years”.
As part of the Arctic Awards 2018, in one of the nominations, the National Geographic documentary “Save the Planet” shot jointly by Fisher Stevens and Leonardo DiCaprio was also presented.
