The tournament is going full swing, teams are becoming exhausted, and the level of physical fitness of the sides is gradually becoming the key winning point.
In the second quarterfinal, HC Arctic played against AHC Suhkhoi. The teams had already met in the 1st round. The team of Ravil Yakubov won that match (7:3). This time the nominal hosts, playing in red outfits, started pressing the guests heavily, but Sukhoi stood their ground. It was not until 10 minutes after the start when the spectators saw the first goal. At the end of the first half of the first period, Arctic managed to deliver with more of its players present on ice: Kirill Krasnov (№8) made a terrific shot into the corner. And almost immediately, Kirill Tomilin (№37) succeeded too. After 2 minutes, Denis Trushkov (№55) made a floater, and Alexander Zotov (№77) was the fastest to react: 3-0. The end of the period was generally dominated by our hockey players; despite that AHK Sukhoi had territorial advantage, it was unable to use it.
Sergey Korolev’s team members started the second period with attacks, which left them no choice but to expose themselves – and Arctic skillfully took advantage of that. One of such attacks ended in a beautiful goal after solo attack of the same Alexander Zotov (№77). The spirit of Sukhoi faultered, which allowed our players to attack the enemy goal again and again, delivering 6 more goals during the second period.
In essence, the third period was a mere formality, but Arctic remained true to its attacking style and hit the goal of the nominal guests 4 more times. The total score of 14-0 has led us into the semi-final of the Grand Slam, where Arctic will play against Zvezda CVO, which has not lost a single game so far. The match will take place on May, 8 at 2:30 p.m.
